The Hard Truth About Settling Down in a New Country No One Talks About
It shouldn’t feel this hard, right?
I got married earlier this year. The wedding was nothing fancy with less than 15 people in the room but we were happier that way.
For a couple who’s been in a long distance for 7 years, the wedding ceremony means more than just a celebration.
Being in such a relationship would eventually take a toll on your mental health. I was always frustrated and anxious — thinking whether it’d work out or not.
Now that we’re married, it’s like a huge weight has lifted up from our shoulders. It’s freeing and definitely less drama. No unnecessary fights about stupid texts or arguments about who needs to see who.
It’s all over and I felt like living in a fairytale for a while. Until reality hits me hard and I feel like I’m back to square one.
Settling down in a new country
Let’s talk about those who move out of their country to be with someone. Because it’s certainly not as “dreamy” as you’ve seen on Instagram.
If there’s one thing I don’t like about social media, is the force to normalize a “happy ending” in a romantic relationship.
